Our Staff and Volunteers

margarita
Margarita Romo is our founder and President of our Board of Directors. She volunteers her time to oversee the day to day operations of the mission. In 1987 Resurrection House Mission was created as a project of Farmworkers Self Help to provide spiritual outreach to the community of Tommytown just north of Dade City. In 1987 she was given the permission of Bishop Franzen of the Florida-Bahamas Synod to act as our Volunteer Lay Director. Ordained in 2003 by the Blessed Assurance Temple, a non-denominational church in Bartow, Florida, Margarita does all that she can as we await the ordination of her son Bruce.

Bruce Edwards is our Mission Director and Music Director. Son of Margarita Romo, he has been involved with Resurrection House since the days of visiting the migrant camps. Bruce is currently enrolled in the ELCA's TEEM program. We expect that by the end of 2009 Bruce will be ordained and installed as the pastor of Resurrection House Mission. Bruce is also busy planning the new church building that will be built in Resurrection Park and if that were not enough to keep him busy he is also the lead singer and drummer for zoomdaddy, our contemporary Christian band.

Mark Bybee has been our volunteer pastor for the past two years and helps lead worship on Sunday morning. His sermons are given in English and translated into Spanish since we offer the only completely bi-lingual worship service in the area. Pastor Mark has also worked with missionaries to the biker community, attending motorcycle events around the country. He sometimes plays the banjo on Sunday mornings during our time of music with the children. Pastor Mark also acts as an ambassador outside our community to raise awareness among other churches and organizations.

Denise Bybee, also known as Miss Denise, is Pastor Mark's wife. She has had many years of experience with children, including teaching in a Christian pre-school and leading a Bible study for middle school girls. Denise volunteers with the children during Sunday services. She teaches them Bible stories through craft projects and other activities. She also enjoys baking brownies for the congregation-wide dinner following each Sunday service.

Catalina Morales serves as one of our community outreach workers. In addition to helping prepare for Sunday services, she often travels with Margarita to visit those in our community that can not make it to church due to illness or other reasons. She also provides transportation to members of our congregation that need a ride to a doctor's appointments and such. Working with Catalina is her daughter Teresita. Both women are a blessing to our ministry.

Marisol Morales was one of the original Rez House kids. She has been involved in our ministry since the age of 5 and now she and husband Benjamin bring their three children each Sunday. Marisol will sometimes take over the translation duties from Margarita. Marisol works as the youth coordinator for FSH and stays involved with Rez House, currently assisting as a teacher in our confirmation classes.

Ana Alamillo is the Immigration Specialist at our sister organization, Farmworkers Self-Help. She has been one of our church moms for many years, helping to prepare meals and transport the kids when needed and has recently taken on the responsibility of teaching at our confirmation classes that are held each week at Shepherd of the Hills in Dade City.

James Brown serves as our Administrative Assistant, Assistant Music Director and is a member of the band on Sunday mornings. He also serves as Treasurer on our Board of Directors. His background includes radio broadcasting and music production as well as management positions. His wife Cindy volunteers as our Chorus Director and along with Margarita, she helps to get the kids to and from singing engagements as well as learning new songs for Sundays at Rez House. Cindy loves to sing and loves working with the kids.

In addition to our staff the volunteers mentioned above, there are many others. The men and women of our community are involved in so many ways, some helping with construction projects, others sewing and ironing for the children's choir and still more cooking for the Sunday meals. The support does not stop with the community. Throughout our beginnings we have been blessed with visits from church groups from as far away as New Canaan, Connecticut. That group brought over 100 teens to help clear the land that is now Resurrection Park. Before they left they built a soccer field and a small playground for the younger children was built. A group of men from Nativity Lutheran Church in Weeki Wachee made several visits in past years to help finish various construction projects and most recently a group of 25 visited from a The Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah, Georgia to paint and install a patio next to our pavilion in the park. We hear that they will be back this summer.
